She said she has a collection of bottles displayed over her kitchen cabinets and took them all down recently to wash. After rearranging them, she found she could use a few more, so went looking on Etsy ~ "Of course I searched on "Epsteam glass bottles"!" she said.
Last year I wrote two blog posts about my adventures with bottles--one is titled "Oops! Or: There Goes Another Etsy Sale" (yes, it's about what you think it is) and the other is "When Selling on Etsy Lifts My Spirits," the story of a man who bought that first red bottle above, the swirly one with the yellow felt craspedia flowers, and why he bought it
Numerous articles on collecting antique or vintage bottles can be found on the internet, as well as a variety of books on Amazon, if you'd like to familiarize yourself with what to look for.
Or, if you're like me, you can simply collect ones that you like!

DeleteJulie, we have a mutual admiration society going ~ thanks so much for mentioning me on your blog about bottles and then doing an interview with me here: www.stellaerwins.blogspot.com! hugs,

Well, that first comment was removed because I was going to use my other avatar, the blue star for my shop, but nevermind--just a little publishing glitch ~ okay to use my picture, too :)
DeleteGreat blog article! Bottles are under appreciated! I love how they are shown as bud vases in the pictures above. And all wonderful shops selling glass featured! Julie's bird feeders are unique and amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteRenee, so glad you liked it! And yes, Julie's bird feeders are extraordinary!
DeleteThanks for sharing this great resource!!! I am a watercolor painter and just recently started to paint glass objects, and your post has just revealed a treasure trove for me! I the next few weeks I will be hunting down bottles in those shops... ;-)
ReplyDeleteArena, I'm happy to hear this--and how I'd love to see your finished paintings--hopefully you'll put them up for sale on Etsy, along with your watercolors!
DeleteThanks for including my blue bottles. Old glass is so versatile. I use several in the bathroom for brushes and in the office for all my pens and pencils.
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome, Rena. Blue bottles are my favorite, and I have a large collection of blue Mason jars, too, plus a lot of clear glass ones, which I keep in the kitchen on open shelves filled with rice and beans and all sorts of things. Maybe I'll do a post on those, too. Though I never sell them, I'm too greedy! :)
DeleteA fellow glass appreciator! I like to think in my next life I will be a stained glass artist, I love how light travels through glass. For now, I settle on glass bottles! Thanks so much Kris!-judygovintage
ReplyDeleteJudy, yes, we're kindred spirits! My biggest problem is resisting the urge to buy more and more glass for my own collection, let alone for my Etsy shop. It's like books--I guess you could say we're glassaholics!
DeleteI just love vintage bottles and displaying collections. An uncle used to take me bottle picking when I was a little girl and that hooked me! thank you so much for featuring one of my groupings :)
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome, MaryBeth ~ and BTW, your Etsy shop has long been a favorite of mine! http://www.etsy.com/shop/marybethhale
